| I first started taking photographs around 1961 (age 6 or 7) with my first camera - a 'Kodak Brownie Starlet'. I was introduced to camping in the high country at Mount Buffalo Victoria in 1963 where I took the centrer photo above. However I had very few opportunities or interest to do more landscape photography until a long time later. I found aircraft a lot more interesting to photograph at that time and on through to my teenage years.
Soon after leaving school I started as an assistant photographer in the Postmaster Generals Department (PMG) in 1971 and then progressed later as a full time publicity photographer with Telecom Australia until 1988. However spare time was spent travelling and photographing natural environments particularly National Parks. The early eighties saw a world-wide increase in interest toward an awareness of 'conservation' and the environment. I became particularly passionate about photographing old growth forests, nature and the natural environment generally. Since 1988 I have been self employed focusing on Landscape, Nature and Weather photography. Other photographers work I've particularly admired include Atsushi Tsunoda, Galen Rowell, Ernst Hass, Peter Dombrovskis and many more. My Landscape and Nature work has appeared widely in books, cards, calendars, magazines, posters and advertising since the early 1980's. Camera types used 35mm - Nikon F3, Leica M3. Medium Format - Rollieflex SL66, Fuji GSW 690 and Art Panorama 6x17cm. Digital - Panasonic Lumix FZ30/50. Many other types used in the past include Linhof 4x5, Bronica 6x45, Mamiya RB67, Hasselblad, Pentax H2. Awards Certificate of Outstanding Merit, Goethe Institute, 1978. Winner of Landscape Category, Professional Photographer of the Year Awards 1986/87, A.I.P.P. Australian Institute of Professional Photography Silver Award, National Print Awards 1991, A.I.P.P. Australian Institute of Professional Photography. . |
